Find out how we help change Lives in South African townships

About Us

UK CWD was established as a UK charity (No: 1175200) by a group of volunteers in UK and Ireland to support some of the poorest children and their families living in the townships surrounding Capetown in South Africa, home to several million people.

Life in the townships can be extremely tough, with 50% unemployment, overcrowded informal housing and highly variable access to basic services like sanitation, healthcare and policing.

We work with local partners to help support education and learning from pre-school creches right through to college level skills. It’s been amazing to see young people we met as children now graduate with nursing qualifications and other important stepping stones to work. We also support poverty relief programmes, including soup kitchens and disaster relief teams who help families whose homes are flooded or burnt to the ground and lose everything.

We primarily support community based programmes focusing on early years education, skills and training for work and poverty and disaster relief.

One of our most valued local partners is CWD South Africa, who run community centres and programmes in many of the townships. You can find out more about their work here.

Every penny raised goes to projects in South Africa
UK CWD is run by a group of UK and Ireland based volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in South Africa. Several have been involved for well over a decade, visiting projects regularly to see how donations are being spent, to provide expertise and to assess future needs.

The Trustees

The current trustees cover the minor running costs personally which means every penny raised or donated goes to help projects in South Africa.

Buckets Of Love

Many children and families go hungry in the townships and each year we support the Buckets of Love campaign. Each 20 litre bucket contains food for a family of four for a week and the majority of the 6,000 buckets are distributed at Christmas so everyone can sit down to a Christmas meal.

Some buckets are also kept in reserve for families whose homes are burnt to the ground. Part of disaster relief kits they also include new building materials as well food and help is provided for other essentials like helping gain new identity documents.

You can donate to Buckets of Love specifically or make a general donation to help education and poverty relief programmes using the options below.
